Method

  1. Preheat oven to 220C or Gas Mark 7.
  2. Sift flour and baking powder and rub in margarine until mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Add the fruit, sugar and mixed spice. Add the milk or water gradually and mix to a soft dough.
  3. Roll out the dough on a floured board to a thickness of 1cm/½″ thick. Cut the scones out using a 5cm cutter and place on floured baking sheet. Bake in oven for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Cool and serve.
